The Headspace Therapy Puppy: Pupdate #1

This is the start of a very exciting journey for Headspace Guildford. We are about to be joined by our newest team member, Seren, a black labrador puppy. We hope very much that Seren will become a therapy puppy, but let’s see what she thinks about that! She will join us when she is 8 weeks old.

This blog, promised for Saturday is being written on Tuesday, which is evidence that puppies are a lot of work. Seren has not yet even arrived at Headspace Guildford but making space for her in our lives and our practice takes time. This has included clearing a space for her to sleep, shopping for her and wading through the huge range of choices related to what we should feed her. And that’s just as it should be. Seren will more than earn her keep teaching us to be calm and providing comfort – it’s right that we spend time making a place for her. Just like the families we work with here, Seren will really be held in mind for all of her journey and we want to take care about the way we care for her. We think the little things (like how soft her bed is) matter as much as the big things, which again feels like a parallel with the work we do with children and families. And one final parallel. For us at Headspace Guildford, the values are what guides our practice. We believe that building positive relationships, striving to be better, caring about what we do, the people who work here and the people we work with and the world around us. We hope that all of these values will be clear in Seren’s journey as much as it is in anyone else’s.

We will try and provide regular pupdates as Seren settles in and starts her training. We hope it won’t be long before you will see her in the office, as she gets older and gains in confidence and as we start to think about returning to face to face work in the office again. Good times are ahead.
